Gretta's Hamster Rescue
GHR was a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2021 by 14-year-old Copland LaBerge, named for a beloved hamster who passed away three days before Christmas. Between 2021 and 2026 we placed 268 hamsters in loving homes.
A new chapter
Copland is now studying at Purdue University, and GHR could no longer run from a family home in Colorado. Rather than close, we found the hamsters a bigger home. The Humane Society of Boulder Valley, founded in 1902, has assumed operation of our hamster program and HSBV will carry forward the GHR mission through their Small Animal adoption program.
“As a hamster-parent, I learned more and more about the needs of hamsters and the closeness that can develop between a human and a hamster. I started Gretta’s Hamster Rescue in honor of Gretta and to make sure that all hamsters get the care and love they need.”
Copland LaBerge, Founder
