Gretta’s Hamster Rescue

Gretta’s Hamster Rescue (GHR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Westminster, Colorado. GHR was launched in 2021 by 14-year old Copland LaBerge. Named after a beloved hamster that passed away 3 days before Christmas, GHR was established with the idea that all hamsters deserve loving homes with proper care.

“As a hamster-parent, I learned more and more about the needs of hamsters and the closeness that can develop between a human and a hamster. I started Gretta’s Hamster Rescue in honor of Gretta and to make sure that all hamsters get the care and love they need.”

Catching up with the Director

Copland recently began school at Purdue’s in their highly competitive, accelerated BS/DVM Veterinary Scholars program. Copland has especially been enjoying his biology classes. He is loving school at Purdue and has also been loving the college environment and living in Indiana. He is still getting used to the cold weather though. His ESA Amy the hamster is doing very well and has been a very good roommate! Copland also continues to support and help to run GHR despite the distance and how busy he is with school!
